Responsibilities and Qualifications

As a Cardiac Cath Lab Technician, you will undertake various roles, including Cardiovascular Technician or Hemodynamic Recorder during Cardiac Catheterization procedures. In both capacities, you will exhibit technical expertise in all Cath Lab procedures and equipment. You will assist the Cardiologist or Electrophysiologist in delivering cardiac patient care. As the Hemodynamic Recorder, you will maintain effective communication with the Cath Lab team to ensure proper equipment setup, accurate monitoring, and quality data collection.

The Certified Cardiac Cath Lab Invasive Specialist fulfills multiple roles within the Cardiac Cath Lab team during Cardiac Catheterization procedures. In both capacities, you will demonstrate technical proficiency in all Cardiac Cath Lab procedures and equipment, applying anatomical and physiological knowledge to assist the Cardiologist or Electrophysiologist in providing cardiac patient care. As the Invasive Specialist, you will ensure effective communication with the Cath Lab team to guarantee proper equipment setup, accurate monitoring, and quality data collection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all cardiac catheterization procedures while serving primarily as a Cardiac Cath Lab Technician or Hemodynamic Recorder.
  • Identify cardiac structures, coronary vasculature, and associated disease processes.
  • Adhere to radiation safety protocols and observe all principles to maintain ALARA standards.
  • Assist the physician in obtaining or entering data into the Physiologic Monitoring System(s) for accurate assessment of left and/or right-sided Hemodynamic pressure measurements.
  • Accurately report Ejection Fraction by demonstrating proficiency in assessing Cardiac function using Left Ventricular Analysis program(s).
  • Ensure that Angiographic and procedural data is properly archived for long-term storage.
  • Verify the presence of all components of procedure information in both hard copy and electronic formats.

Required Qualifications:

Education and Experience: All of the following:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • New hires must meet one of the following criteria:
    • One (1) year of full-time Invasive Cardiovascular Technology experience.
    • An Associate Degree or equivalent college hours (62 semester hours) in health, science, natural science, nursing, engineering, or any primary science or higher.
    • Graduate of an accredited (by CHEA, USDOE, or CMA) program in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology.
    • Graduate of a NON-Programmatically accredited program in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology with a minimum of one (1) year of specialty training and at least 800 clinical hours.

Minimum Licenses, Certificates, or Registrations Required:

  • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification.
  • OR
  • Must possess one of the following certifications:
    • Current certification eligible Cath Lab Technicians must successfully pass the RCIS/RCES exam within 18 months from the start date.
    • RCIS (Registered Cardiac Invasive Specialist) from CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) or RCES (Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist).
