Position Summary: The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various machinery utilized in the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground telecommunications infrastructure. This role involves significant travel, including overnight stays.

Key Duties:

  • Operate equipment on diverse job sites, including but not limited to: Cable Plow, Tractor Backhoe, Mini Excavator, Skid/Track Loader, Directional Drill, and Vacuum Excavator.
  • Install and maintain underground fiber optic and telecommunications cabling.
  • Restore and landscape areas affected by work activities.
  • Excavate pits, trenches, and potholes as per job specifications, ensuring safety when working near utilities.
  • Prepare and clean up job sites.
  • Load, unload, and secure tools, materials, and equipment appropriately.
  • Establish safety perimeters using signage, cones, and barriers, which may include directing traffic.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience with digging and plowing equipment, understanding their functionalities and limitations.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Basic proficiency in using hand tools.
  • Capability to read and comprehend work orders, safety protocols, and operational guidelines.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record; an Unrestricted Class A CDL is highly preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to safety practices.
  • Effective communication skills with team members, clients, and suppliers.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including evenings and weekends, and be available for emergency on-call duties.
  • Travel is a requirement of the position.

Educational Background:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in construction or utility-related work.
  • Ability to interpret utility maps and prints to identify underground utility types and sizes.
