Position Summary: The Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various machinery utilized in the installation, repair, and upkeep of underground telecommunications infrastructure. This role involves significant travel, including overnight assignments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operate equipment on diverse job sites, including but not limited to: Cable Plow, Tractor Backhoe, Mini Excavator, Skid/Track Loader, Directional Drill, and Vacuum Excavator.
  • Install and maintain underground fiber optic and telecommunications cabling.
  • Restore and landscape areas affected by work activities.
  • Excavate pits, trenches, and potholes as per project specifications, ensuring safety around existing utilities.
  • Manage site preparation and cleanup activities.
  • Load, unload, and secure tools, materials, and equipment properly.
  • Establish safety perimeters using appropriate signage and barriers.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in operating digging and plowing equipment, with a clear understanding of their capabilities.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety protocols.
  • Basic skills in using hand tools and small equipment.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting work orders and safety guidelines.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record; Class A CDL preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to safety practices.
  • Effective communication skills with team members, clients, and suppliers.
  • Willingness to work overtime and be available for emergency calls as necessary.
  • Travel requirements are expected.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in construction or utility-related work.
  • Ability to read and understand utility maps and blueprints.
