Position: Teacher Mentor

The Teacher Mentor plays a pivotal role in supporting the School Readiness Coordinator to ensure compliance with all aspects of the Head Start Performance Standards related to Education within Child Care Center Programs. This position operates under the guidance of the School Readiness Coordinator, Center Director, and Director of Early Childhood Education.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide coaching to educators aimed at enhancing instructional outcomes, as reflected in CLASS scores and the Head Start Child Outcomes Framework.
  • Conduct observations and offer constructive feedback to teaching staff using effective mentoring strategies.
  • Ensure adherence to program Education policies, procedures, performance standards, and licensing requirements through on-site evaluations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Head Start Performance Standards and related educational protocols.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of professional development opportunities based on classroom observations and staff assessments.
  • Compile and analyze data for training and planning purposes, including School Readiness Goals and Child Outcomes.
  • Facilitate training for new staff and ongoing professional development for existing personnel.
  • Engage with families and community partners to foster effective communication and support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, along with two years of teaching experience.
  • Proficient understanding of Early Childhood Education best practices.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, families, and staff.
  • Ability to travel as required and adapt to various educational environments.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting the rights of program participants.

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups, demonstrating respect for cultural and socio-economic differences.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and data management.
  • Capability to provide constructive feedback in a supportive manner.
  • Understanding of the dynamics of poverty and its impact on education.
