Position Responsibilities- Underwrite mortgage files and establish conditions in accordance with FHA and LBF standards.
- Make prompt and precise decisions on all FHA transactions.
- Assess risk and ensure the quality of each loan decision.
- Clearly communicate requirements and decisions.
- Review all components of the mortgage loan file for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal and regulatory standards, including Application, Title, Appraisal, Assets, Credit, Condominium information, and income.
- Provide clear communication to relevant parties, including the processing department, regarding items necessary for loan closing preparation.
- Collaborate with processing to ensure timely and efficient loan closures.
- Adhere to service level agreements and prioritize workload effectively.
- Maintain quality control standards while meeting production benchmarks as defined by the company.
- Assist in identifying, recommending, and negotiating alternative documentation requirements for loans.
- A minimum of three years of active experience as a DE Reverse Mortgage Underwriter is essential.
- Experience with HECM for Purchase is advantageous.
- Experience in proprietary reverse mortgage underwriting is a plus.
- Must possess a valid active CHUMS Number.
- Strong skills in credit analysis, risk assessment, and analytical thinking.
- Ability to scrutinize loan documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Proficient in computer applications and quick to learn new software.
- Familiarity with federal and state regulations, particularly MDA, TILA, HUD, and RESPA reform.
- Understanding of the loan flow process, including file structure and documentation requirements.
- Detail-oriented with excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Able to collaborate effectively with diverse individuals, manage pressure with a focus on deadlines, and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Knowledgeable about HUD underwriting guidelines, mortgage legal documentation, third-party risk assessment products, and compliance regulations at federal, state, and local levels.
