Job Title: Grounds Maintenance Laborer

Job Summary:

The Grounds Maintenance Laborer is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of industrial, commercial, or public property grounds. This role involves a variety of tasks, including mowing grass, trimming hedges, pruning shrubs and trees, and performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:
  • Mow grass using walking-type or riding mowers
  • Trim hedges and edges around walkways, flowerbeds, and wells
  • Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth
  • Spray lawns, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer or insecticide
  • Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs
  • Water lawn and shrubs when needed
  • Collect and burn or cart away leaves, paper, or other litter
  • Remove snow from walkways, driveways, roads, or parking lots
  • Spread salt on walkways and other areas if needed
  • Repair and paint fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings
  • Assist in the repair of roads, sidewalks, buildings, and mechanical equipment
  • Clean comfort stations, offices, workshop areas, and parking lots
Requirements:
  • Three to five years of experience in lawn and pavement care/maintenance in an industrial setting
  • Good communication skills and ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to use a variety of tools, including mowers, edgers, clippers, wheelbarrows, and hand tools safely
  • Ability to alert oneself to safety hazards and have a method of communication so that the individual and those around can understand and respond
  • Hands-on ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Required to work independently and with limited supervision
  • Comply with all policies, safety guidelines, and procedures; follow all contract specifications and maintain compliance
  • Must be able to maintain regular and acceptable attendance, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures
Physical Requirements:

The work is performed primarily outdoors, so exposure to various temperatures and weather conditions is possible. Must be able to work in hot or cold temperatures. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and push or pull up to 75 pounds, with or without assistance. Constant walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time may be required. Reaching, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing, and balancing may be needed.

Work Hour Requirement:

This position is full-time (40 hours per week), seasonal, and may include some shift work, including Saturdays and Sundays. Ability to work overtime as needed.
