Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Worker to join our team at the Lefrak Organization. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the physical integrity of our properties and providing a safe, secure, and comfortable living environment for residents, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plumbing: Repair, replace, or install faucets, pipes, toilets, garbage disposals, dishwashers, water-dispensing refrigerators, and washing machines.
  • Electrical: Troubleshoot, repair, replace, or install power switches, fuses, wall sockets, ceiling lights, and ceiling fans.
  • Drywall/Plaster Repair: Fill in small holes caused by nails and minor dings from normal wear and tear.
  • Painting: Perform minor touch-ups following damage repair and apply new coats of paint to unit walls.
  • Appliance Repair: Repair, replace, or install major household appliances, such as refrigerators, dishwashers, range ovens, washers, and dryers.
  • Ground Keeping: Mow grass, pull weeds, trim and prune trees and shrubs, water lawns and plants, replace light bulbs, sweep or rake leaves, and tidy up bark or other ground covering.
  • Cleaning/Housekeeping: Maintain a tidy appearance in shared community locations and clean fixtures, floors, and other surfaces in vacated units.
  • Snow Removal: Shovel, blow, or plow snow away from covered walkways and driveways and lay down rock salt to prevent slipping.
  • Customer Service: Provide professional, prompt, and courteous correspondence with renters and contracted vendors.
  • Time Management: Maintain an organized scheduling and tracking system to effectively complete maintenance requests in a timely manner.
Requirements
  • Appearance: Neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance.
  • Education: High School Graduate or G.E.D. with the ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Proficient Knowledge: Knowledge of carpentry and building maintenance, safe operation of basic hand and power tools, oil burner systems, heating and ventilation systems, electrical systems, appliance maintenance, workplace safety, and safe lifting and handling procedures.
  • Skills: Knowledge and skills in a variety of trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and appliance repair.
  • Abilities: Physical strength to lift cleaning materials and heavy equipment and physical stamina for being on feet all day.
  • Other Characteristics: Interpersonal skills for interacting with building occupants and other staff members.
Physical Requirements

The Maintenance Worker will have a physically strenuous and demanding job, requiring constant need to perform physical activities such as bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, climbing stairs, pushing or pulling, reaching above shoulder, climbing ladders, grasping, gripping, and turning. The worker will also need to lift and carry supplies, replacement parts, ladders, and other equipment, often with assistance from others.
