Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant will provide essential patient care, clerical support, and assist physicians with various medical procedures. This role includes fulfilling patient care responsibilities, performing venipuncture, taking vital signs, and maintaining medical records using the electronic medical record (EMR) system. The candidate should demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and infection control protocols.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with patient care, including performing EKGs, venipuncture, and specimen collection.
  2. Accompany patients to exam rooms and assist with walking, transferring, and dressing.
  3. Prepare patients for exams and assist physicians during procedures.
  4. Relay instructions to patients and families, answer calls, and provide necessary information.
  5. Perform clerical tasks such as managing patient records, obtaining lab results, and completing requisitions.
  6. Enter orders and prescription refill requests in the EMR system.
  7. Ensure exam rooms are prepared with sterilized instruments and supplies.
  8. Maintain medical supplies, check expiration dates, and dispose of expired items according to policy.
  9. Adhere to infection control protocols and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  10. Assist with scheduling surgeries, preparing charts, and verifying pre-certifications as necessary.
  11. May perform appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and maintain patient demographic information.
  12. Perform proficient phlebotomy duties as needed.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills Required:

  • Basic proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly with multicultural patients
  • Excellent telephone etiquette and proficiency in medical terminology
  • Knowledge of electronic medical record systems preferred but not required
  • Adaptability to a changing environment

Education & Certification Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course
  • BCLS certification (AHA) – Required
  • Certified Medical Assistant (preferred)
  • Certifications in HIPAA, Infection Control, and Phlebotomy are beneficial

Schedule:

  • Hours Per Week: 37.50
  • Days Per Week: 5
  • Hours Per Day: 7.5
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
