Position Overview:

The Sustainability Policy Strategist plays a crucial role in delivering environmental compliance and technical assistance related to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for federal clients. This position requires the application of advanced consulting skills, extensive technical knowledge, and industry expertise to devise innovative solutions for complex challenges. Responsibilities include leading and supporting the team in the creation of NEPA documentation, such as Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA), and Categorical Exclusions (CATEX).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand and apply environmental compliance requirements for various permits, including the Clean Water Act (CWA), and consultation mandates under the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
  • Interpret federal and state laws, regulations, and orders pertinent to environmental programs, ensuring adherence to reporting requirements.
  • Conduct technical reviews of environmental and historic preservation projects.
  • Facilitate communication with the team and clients throughout all critical phases of the NEPA process, providing oversight and quality control on project deliverables.
  • Manage the preparation of administrative records for NEPA documents, including monitoring schedules, milestones, and staffing needs to fulfill client expectations.
  • Oversee public outreach initiatives and strategies to engage stakeholders effectively.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a scientific, engineering, or environmental field focused on environmental impact assessments.
  • At least 3 years of experience in developing NEPA documentation.
  • Familiarity with resource consultations, particularly in cultural and historic contexts, supporting NEPA processes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NEPA, executive orders, and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in an Environmental discipline.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience in formulating recommendations for mitigating adverse environmental impacts.
  • Background in historic properties management.
  • Proven ability to engage with stakeholders, including NGOs and community partners.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to manage multiple tasks while collaborating closely with a team.
  • Proficient in creating and formatting complex documents using Microsoft Word.
  • Experience with collaborative tools such as SharePoint and MS Teams.
  • Skilled in preparing and delivering presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Vetting:

Selected candidates will undergo a government investigation and must meet eligibility criteria set by the U.S. government client.
