Position Summary

As a vital member of the Albuquerque Police Department, the Violent Crime Support Coordinator provides essential services and advocacy for individuals affected by violent crimes and their families. This role involves collaborating closely with law enforcement personnel to facilitate next of kin notifications and responding promptly to inquiries from victims. The coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring effective communication between case agents and victims, serving as a knowledgeable resource for connecting victims to community services.

This position also entails working alongside prosecuting agency advocates to guarantee a seamless transition from police involvement to prosecution. Additionally, the coordinator will contribute to the development and maintenance of training programs for officers, civilians, and community organizations.

This is a safety-sensitive role subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience that meet the minimum requirements may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.

- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Human Services, Criminal Justice, Social Work, or a closely related field; and
- Three (3) years of experience working with crime victims.

Preferred Knowledge
  • Understanding of New Mexico Victims' rights within the criminal justice framework.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices governing the criminal justice system.
  • Familiarity with victim services principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in business letter writing and basic report preparation.
  • Record-keeping principles and practices.
  • Awareness of resources and benefits available to crime victims.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
  • Research and analysis methods.
  • Relevant Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Strong command of English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

  • Ability to identify and collaborate with community organizations for resource allocation.
  • Familiarity with modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment.
  • Competence in business letter writing and basic report preparation.
  • Professional and compassionate approach to the populations served.
