Position Overview:
The Patient Care Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering both direct and indirect care services to patients under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals.

Aligned with St. Mary's Healthcare System for Children's mission, this role is dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of care by adhering to regulatory requirements, meeting organizational benchmarks, and maintaining relevant certifications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Guarantees the safe and high-quality delivery of patient care.
  • Engages in interdisciplinary team discussions, providing observations and making suitable recommendations.
  • Actively contributes to the execution of patient care in accordance with established care plans.
  • Completes daily care assignments with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensures patient safety is prioritized throughout the shift.
  • Supervises assigned patients, maintaining awareness of their location at all times.
  • Promotes good personal hygiene and appropriate attire for patients.
  • Encourages independence in activities of daily living (ADLs) appropriate to age.
  • Maintains a tidy, clean, and organized living environment for patients.
  • Assists with feeding to ensure optimal nutrition and hydration as per care plans.
  • Accurately documents vital signs, intake and output, and other critical data as required.
  • Reports any changes in patient status promptly to the supervising nurse or manager.
  • Communicates patient status effectively during shift changes and breaks.
  • Facilitates age-appropriate social interactions and stimulation for patients.
  • Collaborates with therapeutic activity staff to enhance patient engagement.
  • Accompanies patients to appointments as assigned, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed.
  • Identifies and manages patient belongings and environmental factors accurately.
  • Reports any malfunctioning equipment immediately to the supervising nurse or manager.
  • Maintains a clean and organized workspace.
  • Initiates the admissions process by welcoming new patients, orienting them to their surroundings, and assisting with initial assessments.
Additional Duties:
  • Works with environmental services to ensure an adequate supply of clean clothing.
  • Accompanies patients on outings and activities as required.
  • Seeks opportunities for professional development and knowledge enhancement.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives within the unit.
  • Assists nursing staff with procedures as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a 100-hour Nurse Aide Training Program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Aide by the State of New York.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
Experience:
One year of experience in a Medical Surgical or Pediatric setting is preferred.
