Amerco Real Estate Company is seeking a skilled Land Use Planner to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our land use and zoning team, you will be responsible for planning, graphic preparation, municipal entitlements, and plan preparation of commercial, industrial, or retail properties in the US and Canada.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research and prepare analysis of municipal zoning codes to ensure compliance and feasibility of development projects.
  • Negotiate and finalize entitlements from municipalities to secure necessary permits and approvals.
  • Process applications for rezoning, tentative map, development agreements, design review, general plan amendments, and variances to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Represent the company at virtual hearings, pre-application meetings, and other stakeholder engagements to effectively communicate project needs and outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with municipal staff and officials to ensure seamless collaboration and project success.
  • Communicate complex zoning codes, general plans, specific plans, and technical reports to internal and external stakeholders to ensure project understanding and buy-in.
  • Negotiate contracts for services with outside consultants, such as land use attorneys, architects, and civil engineers, to ensure project deliverables and timelines are met.
  • Prepare high-quality graphics and materials using AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Adobe Creative Suite to effectively communicate project information and outcomes.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in real estate, urban planning, architecture, engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in planning or architecture-related fields, with a strong understanding of the site development process.
  • Excellent organization and people skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse staff levels and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and delivering high-quality results.
Preferred Skills:
  • AutoCAD
  • Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Photoshop and InDesign)
  • Microsoft Office Suite
