Supervisor: Aquatics Superintendent

Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Head Guards and the Aquatics Superintendent, Lifeguards play a crucial role in delivering exceptional customer service to facility members. They are tasked with enforcing facility policies, ensuring the safety of patrons, and effectively responding to emergencies. Lifeguards are expected to demonstrate proficiency in American Red Cross lifeguarding techniques, maintain a high level of professionalism, and treat all individuals with fairness and respect.

Key Responsibilities

  • Remain vigilant and prepared to act in emergencies while on surveillance duty.
  • Prevent accidents in the water and on deck by enforcing all relevant policies and regulations.
  • Recognize emergency situations, implement the facility's Emergency Action Plan, and provide necessary rescue and first aid as required.
  • Check in patrons upon their arrival at the facility.
  • Respond to inquiries and educate patrons on facility rules and regulations.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure a safe and welcoming aquatic environment.
  • Inspect pool facilities and equipment to maintain a safe atmosphere for all users.
  • Monitor facility operations and maintain order in the pool area, proactively addressing potential issues.
  • Adhere to and enforce all policies set forth by the Aquatics Department and relevant health authorities.
  • Foster a positive team environment and contribute to team morale.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor while interacting with patrons and colleagues.
  • Maintain a neat appearance in uniform and personal hygiene.
  • Be available for early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Complete all necessary records and reports as required.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to hazardous situations.
  • Make informed decisions during emergency situations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of lifeguarding techniques and safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with patrons and staff.

Work Schedule

Part-time, approximately 10-30 hours per week, including potential shifts on days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Work Environment

Exposure to warm, humid conditions and chemically treated pool water.

Employees are regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands for various tasks. They must frequently stand, walk, sit, and reach with arms. Occasionally, they may need to swim, dive, or retrieve objects from the pool.

Qualifications

Some high school education is required.

Certifications

American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications must be obtained upon hire.
