Key Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluate the competence of school bus drivers using a formal process and prescribed standards to determine whether their competency level meets company standards and identify development needs, if any.
  2. Conduct and document required evaluations, ensuring accurate and thorough records.
  3. Assist in the driver recruitment process, helping us to build a talented and dedicated team.
  4. Participate in monthly safety meetings, sharing your expertise and insights to promote a culture of safety.
  5. Develop and administer customer safety awareness programs, promoting a culture of safety and responsibility among our students, drivers, and staff.
  6. Coordinate with safety and training supervisors to notify drivers of upcoming licenses and/or certificate expiration dates, ensuring that all drivers stay up-to-date and compliant.
  7. Utilize video and performance data to inform your evaluations and improve driver performance.
  8. Support the development of a safety culture within Durham School Services, promoting a culture of safety and responsibility among our employees.
  9. Become a certified evaluator within 3 months, demonstrating your expertise and commitment to excellence.
  10. Provide safe and reliable transportation services by operating a school bus or other location-specific vehicle with a fixed or changing route.
  11. Report to duty on time and maintain your route on time, ensuring that our students arrive safely and on schedule.
  12. Physically assist passengers in evacuating the vehicle in case of an emergency, prioritizing their safety and well-being.
  13. Immediately report any accidents or incidents per company policy, ensuring that we respond promptly and effectively.
  14. Follow company policy around student and/or passenger management, prioritizing their safety and well-being.
  15. Inform all appropriate personnel of problems or procedures, ensuring that we communicate effectively and efficiently.
  16. Present a neat and professional personal appearance at all times, representing Durham School Services with pride.
  17. Complete all required paperwork, including route change sheets, time cards, and vehicle repair requests, and submit them to the appropriate authority in a timely manner.
  18. Maintain a cooperative attitude with fellow employees, supervisors, customers, and passengers, promoting a culture of teamwork and collaboration.
  19. Safely and efficiently utilize vehicle equipment, including wheelchair lifts, radios, and emergency equipment.
  20. Additional responsibilities for our Paratransit Drivers may apply per location.
  21. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age or the age required by state law.
  2. High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  3. Be licensed to operate the relevant vehicle over the relevant geographic area and have held this license for at least two years.
  4. Must meet physical and medical requirements and pass substance abuse screening, as a safety-sensitive employee, will be subject to random substance abuse screening under company policy.
  5. Compliance with all applicable federal, state, county, district, and contract-specific driver requirements.
  6. Must complete job-specific assessment.
  7. Demonstrated ability to communicate in local language to a level sufficient to read and understand information relevant to driving and to communicate with drivers being evaluated.
  8. Must demonstrate credibility and trustworthiness with drivers and co-workers.
  9. Ability to successfully communicate and coach individuals.
  10. Must satisfactorily complete and pass all training and attend safety meetings and in-service meetings in order to remain qualified.
  11. Strong sense of personal accountability.
  12. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  13. Basic computer skills.
  14. Must meet Company Driver Training, Evaluator, and Coaching standards within 3 months.
  15. Preferred Qualifications: Hold Master Driver status, 2 years accident-free driving experience with National Express, no confirmed customer complaints, no disciplinary action, no attendance policy violations.
  16. Due to the importance of this role, a six-month probationary period applies.

Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
