Mechanical Inspector

The City of Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a skilled Mechanical Inspector to join our team. As a Mechanical Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Municipal, State, and National codes and identifying defects and potential hazards in residential and commercial mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities- Inspect mechanical installations to verify compliance with relevant codes and regulations
- Schedule and conduct inspections, respond to questions and complaints from the public and contractors
- Issue corrective orders and written violation notices to contractors and owners
- Review plans for equipment installations and issue permits
- Consult with contractors, architects, engineers, and other city departments on code compliance and design requirements
- Prepare and administer licensing exams, issue licenses, and maintain records
- Abate hazardous conditions and issue violation/shut-off notices
- Attend code update meetings for continuing education
- High School diploma or equivalent
- At least four (4) years of related work experience
- Possession of a mechanical license from the State of Michigan in 3 of the 4 following categories (Hydronic heating and cooling and process piping, HVAC equipment, Refrigeration, Fire suppression) for at least 1 year immediately preceding application
- Or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
