Job Summary

The Township of Shelby is seeking a part-time Mechanical Inspector to perform inspections and reviews of plans to ensure compliance with applicable construction codes, ordinances, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect buildings, structures, equipment, and property to enforce compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Review plans and specifications of buildings, structures, equipment, and sites to ensure compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Inform, assist, and advise architects, engineers, developers, contractors, property owners, and the general public regarding code, ordinance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints concerning code, ordinance, and regulatory matters.
  • Represent the Building Department before Township Boards and Commissions, State and other public agencies, courts of competent jurisdiction, and other legal authorities.
  • Prepare and maintain departmental records and reports using departmental computer software.
  • Generate correspondence, violations, court citations, and other related documentation as required.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent with five (5) years directly related experience, or an associate degree in a related field with two (2) years of directly related experience.
  • Valid driver's license and driving record without limitation.
  • State of Michigan registration as an Inspector and Plan Reviewer in the mechanical disciplines, or the ability and qualifications to obtain provisional registrations within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Certification as an Inspector and Plan Reviewer from the International Code Council (ICC) in the applicable discipline(s) is preferred.
Working Conditions

The Mechanical Inspector will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with various stakeholders, including architects, engineers, developers, contractors, property owners, and the general public. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The Township of Shelby offers a competitive salary of $36.98 per hour, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
