Position Summary
The Bridge is dedicated to transforming lives by providing assistance, hope, and opportunities to those in need within our community. We deliver a wide array of evidence-based rehabilitative services, which encompass mental health and substance abuse treatment, housing solutions, vocational training, job placement, healthcare, education, and creative arts therapies.
The Housing Coordinator plays a vital role within a human services team, focusing on the development and implementation of housing strategies, placements, and ongoing support for clients referred to our services. This position requires collaboration with case managers, clients, and the Housing Acquisitions Director to identify and secure stable housing options.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with supportive housing providers, real estate agents, property managers, and landlords to discover new housing opportunities for clients.
- Keep an updated database of available housing options, documenting relevant details and status changes, and provide weekly updates on inventory.
- Ensure compliance with fair housing standards while securing housing units.
- Verify that landlords and management companies adhere to housing laws, building codes, and lease agreements.
- Notify case management staff regarding unit readiness and any issues clients may face in maintaining their housing.
- Collaborate with case managers to identify and address barriers to permanent housing, assisting clients in preparing for the housing process.
- Work with case management staff to resolve conflicts or crises involving landlords and property managers.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of findings, unit statuses, inspections, and client interactions.
- Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities, collaborating with consortium partners as necessary.
- Foster an inclusive environment that promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA).
- Contribute to a workplace culture that encourages high performance, teamwork, accountability, and respectful interactions.
- Utilize best practices for effective communication and feedback across all levels of staff engagement.
- Perform all job-related duties as required.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience with NYC voucher programs, housing subsidies, supportive housing initiatives, and negotiating lease agreements with landlords or real estate management companies.
- Strong understanding of applicable state and city housing and disability regulations.
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with databases such as HOME, CARES, CAPS, and Housing Connect.
- Willingness to travel throughout the community and conduct multiple visits as necessary, including occasional evening or weekend hours.
- Commitment to quality and data-driven reporting.
- Exceptional customer service skills and strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proactive, adaptable, and innovative approach to housing searches.
- Bilingual candidates are highly preferred.
