Position Overview

The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) is in search of a dedicated Culinary Service Specialist to enhance our dining, catering, and market operations. Join a team committed to delivering outstanding hospitality while supporting local agriculture through creatively crafted menus that reflect seasonal ingredients.

The Culinary Service Specialist plays a vital role in providing exceptional service to our diverse clientele, including students, faculty, and visitors. This position requires the ability to work autonomously and efficiently, setting up and dismantling various dining venues according to specific guidelines. Flexibility to adapt to different locations on campus as directed by management is essential. Additionally, this role involves managing daily cash transactions and maintaining cleanliness in assigned areas.

Key Responsibilities

In alignment with RISD Dining's mission, the incumbent may be tasked with performing one or more of the following duties:

• Prepare and set up dining locations across campus, ensuring all food items and supplies are ready for service.
• Manage condiment and beverage stations, including brewing coffee and replenishing supplies as needed.
• Display menus and familiarize oneself with the ingredients of each menu item.
• Receive and stock items while ensuring proper presentation and availability.
• Provide timely and courteous service to a high volume of customers, representing RISD Dining with professionalism and knowledge.
• Adhere to established cash handling procedures, maintaining accurate logs and verifying cash drawers at the beginning and end of shifts.
• Follow protocols for ordering and receiving products to maintain optimal inventory levels.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in all areas, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in food service within a restaurant or educational setting is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality service.
  • Experience with cash handling procedures.
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications:

• Rhode Island sanitation/ServSafe certification.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week, with shifts scheduled across seven days, including daytime, evening, and weekend hours.

All staff within Dining Services are considered essential personnel and are expected to report to work during school closures.
