Position Overview

The Veterans Health Administration is seeking to appoint a Supervisor in Culinary Services. This role is a permanent, full-time opportunity requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week. The selected individual will act as the primary supervisor for the shift, overseeing all culinary operations and coordinating the efforts of the Culinary Service Workers across various sectors of the Culinary Services Department.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Current federal employees of the Veterans Health Administration.
Key Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Overseeing all aspects of food preparation and service, including meal preparation, nourishment distribution, and tray delivery and collection.
  • Addressing any issues that arise during service operations related to food delivery.
  • Receiving and evaluating deliveries, as well as managing supply requisitions for all culinary service areas.
  • Conducting performance evaluations and competency assessments for all team members under direct supervision.
  • Engaging in discussions regarding work performance with staff, monitoring attendance, and providing necessary guidance and adjustments to assignments.
  • Executing responsibilities in accordance with established guidelines, procedures, and policies.
  • Ensuring that team members complete assigned tasks and clearly communicating work requirements to align with service schedules.
  • Setting priorities for daily operations, particularly in emergency situations, and defining quality and quantity standards.
  • Participating in training initiatives by providing instruction to individuals or groups.
  • Offering support and guidance to junior staff in assembling patient trays and selecting appropriate food items for modified diets.
  • Maintaining an inventory of culinary supplies and equipment.
  • Conducting quality assurance assessments and sanitation inspections.
  • Supervising the delivery and collection of patient trays, which involves collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Performing additional related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Variable hours, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Experience: While a specific length of training and experience is not mandated, candidates must demonstrate evidence of training or experience that showcases their capability to perform the duties of this position. Applicants will be evaluated based on the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.

Physical Requirements: This role requires light to moderate physical effort, with potential for heavy work, such as cleaning large cooking utensils and moving heavy carts. Workers may be subject to continuous standing and walking, frequent bending, and lifting of objects weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted.

Education: There is no educational substitution for this position.
