The Dog Foster Coordinator plays a pivotal role in the operations of our animal shelter, collaborating closely with the Shelter Manager and Veterinary Team to facilitate the placement of dogs, puppies, and expectant mothers into suitable foster homes.

Key Responsibilities

Foster Placement Duties:

  • Evaluate applications submitted to the shelter via various channels.
  • Upon approval, liaise with volunteers to arrange home assessments.
  • Coordinate meet-and-greet sessions for prospective fosters and available dogs.
  • Ensure medical records are updated with discharge instructions and clarify medical responsibilities with fosters.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records for all foster placements.
  • Respond to inquiries and messages promptly, within a 24-hour timeframe.
  • Keep the pet management and medical databases current.
  • Handle incoming calls from fosters during operational hours.
  • Relay information regarding potential adopters to foster caregivers.
  • Conduct follow-ups to confirm scheduling of meet-and-greet appointments and gather feedback.
  • Engage with fosters monthly to maintain communication and update tracking records.

Medical Coordination:

  • Collaborate with medical personnel to compile a list of eligible fosters.
  • Maintain a detailed log of special dietary needs and medications for each foster.
  • Organize pickups for food and medications to ensure ongoing medical support.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments for health assessments.
  • Monitor any medical concerns reported by fosters and provide necessary support.
  • Track dogs with specific medical needs and maintain regular contact with fosters to ensure compliance with care requirements.
