Patient Care Technician

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) plays a vital role in the delivery of patient care in the Cardiosciences Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at Rush University Medical Center. As a PCT, you will work under the direction of the Registered Nurse to provide high-quality care to patients of all ages.
Responsibilities- Assist the RN in the delivery of patient care, including activities of daily living, obtaining patient data, and documenting care in the patient record.
- Perform routine procedures, treatments, and specimen collections, demonstrating aseptic technique when necessary.
- Assist RN or physician with advanced procedures and manage uncomplicated tubes and drains.
- Transport patients and items as needed, and assist with admission, discharge, and transport of patients.
- Utilize technology, including the telephone, patient call system, and EPIC, to document in real-time and communicate with team members.
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment, including keeping patient rooms and unit orderly, and replenishing patient room supplies.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Maintain current BLS certification.
- Prior formal clinical training, including CMA, CNA, PCT, EMT, corpsman, paramedic, and nursing or medical student experience.
- Successful completion of the institutional screening examination.
- Ability to solve simple problems and excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Prior clinical experience in an acute care setting.
