Overview
The selected candidate will take on the pivotal role of designing optical and opto-mechanical systems utilized in QuEra's advanced neutral atom quantum computing technologies.

Position Summary
As a senior engineer, the ideal individual will significantly contribute to the development of optical hardware, leveraging a deep understanding of the company's foundational technologies and strategic goals.

The candidate will collaborate within a multidisciplinary team comprising scientists, engineers, and management personnel across various levels.

Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with physicists and senior engineers to establish requirements and specifications for optical hardware.
- Design optical and opto-mechanical components, including multi-element lens systems, custom mounts, and optical modules, utilizing both optical and mechanical design software.
- Document hardware designs, detailing specifications, performance metrics, and manufacturability considerations.

- Source components and assemble prototypes to validate hardware performance.
- Create assembly and testing protocols for execution by engineering teams and technicians.

Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related discipline (Master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
- At least 5 years of industry experience in the design of optical and opto-mechanical systems, ideally within a well-established engineering organization.
- Strong foundational knowledge of optical physics and design principles, including geometric optics, physical optics, and lens design.

- Proficiency with common optical design software (e.g., Zemax) and mechanical design tools (e.g., Solidworks or Inventor), particularly in a professional engineering context (PDM/PLM).
- Demonstrated hands-on laboratory skills with a proven track record of constructing intricate optical setups.
- Excellent communication abilities, capable of articulating physical concepts, design rationale, and experimental findings to a diverse audience.
