Compensation: $16.50 – $18.00, determined by skills, qualifications, and experience.
The Site Administrator addresses the emotional, cognitive, social, and physical needs of children, while maintaining effective communication with parents.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure consistency and quality in the Before/After Care program by being present on-site for 50% of operational hours.
- Oversee the site(s), children, groups, and assigned activities while demonstrating safe and developmentally appropriate childcare practices.
- Provide daily care for children, including feeding and supporting their social/emotional needs.
- Encourage and engage children in all classroom activities, including instructional times, mealtimes, transitions, and physical activities.
- Implement positive behavior management strategies.
- Plan, execute, and actively participate in daily age-appropriate classroom activities to ensure all children have learning opportunities, including literacy, healthy living, STEM, and physical activities.
- Observe and document children's progress and development.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, branch administration, and parents to foster positive relationships that promote collaboration and increase parent involvement.
- Ensure all participants receive an exceptional experience by addressing customer needs promptly and courteously.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of the facility and all equipment/supplies daily.
- Complete and maintain required program documentation, including children's attendance, meal counts, emergency drills, and daily parent communication.
- Participate actively in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and ongoing professional development.
- Ensure compliance with all YMCA and state regulatory standards, policies, and protocols, including Licensing, Stars, and DPH.
- Attend and complete all required training sessions as assigned.
- Report program needs and concerns to the Child Development Director.
- Education and Experience: To meet licensing requirements, the School Age Administrator must be at least 20 years old and meet one of the following qualifications:
- Option 1: A high school diploma or equivalent recognized by DOE, with at least 12 college credits in relevant fields and six months of experience working with children in a group setting.
- Option 2: A high school diploma or equivalent recognized by DOE, with at least 6 college credits in relevant fields and the school-age bundle from the Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood, along with six months of experience working with children in a group setting.
- Option 3: A high school diploma or equivalent recognized by DOE, with completion of the school-age bundle from the Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood and twelve months of experience working with children in a group setting.
- Complete a physical and tuberculosis screening, providing documentation within 30 days of hire.
- Successful completion of a comprehensive background check as required by the State of Delaware.
- Strong active listening skills to understand and adapt to the needs of children and parents.
- Patience and compassion necessary for working with young children.
- Ability to create activities that promote healthy development.
- Ability to maintain classroom discipline and control.
- Ability to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for children and staff.
- Capable of caring for a large group of children independently in a classroom setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, effective with a diverse community.
- Multi-lingual abilities.
- Prior experience working with youth in group settings.
- Ability to build positive, authentic relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Flexibility to accommodate the needs of the early childhood community and staff.
- Capability to develop and present educational programs or workshops.
- Ability to influence and persuade others.
- Knowledge of early childhood and school-age education programs and techniques.
- Understanding of child development theory and practice.
- Aware of the unique needs of young children and maintain appropriate expectations of their abilities.
- Preference for candidates available for 5 mornings, 5 afternoons, or both to ensure continuity of care for students.
