Job Summary: GeorgiaGov is seeking a skilled Highway Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a key member of our transportation department, you will be responsible for maintaining highways, municipal and rural roads, runways, and rights of way.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain highways, municipal and rural roads, runways, and rights of way
  • Operate various types of heavy equipment, such as motor graders, small excavators, asphalt pavers, lowboys, and dump trucks
  • Perform skilled labor in the transportation-related areas, including maintenance of highways and right of ways
  • Respond to emergency situations affecting the state route system during and after normal working hours
  • Provide day-to-day supervision of a crew or sub-unit to accomplish tasks assigned by the supervisor
  • Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment

Requirements:

  • One year of experience in equipment operation and/or repair, highway maintenance, or any other relevant experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • State Entry Qualifications and Agency Specific Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to work emergencies outside of normal working hours
  • Ability to provide quality customer service
  • Ability to assist/teach by guiding and providing constructive feedback
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and work plans
  • Ability to work with people from different backgrounds and varied situations
  • Ability to work well with others in resolving problems
  • Displays a high standard of work ethics and commitment toward work
  • Ability to analyze situations in order to generate and evaluate alternatives and recommend a solution based on facts, policy, procedure, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License
  • Possession of CDL tanker endorsement
  • Ability to provide leadership and guidance to lower level employees in the operation of equipment and preventive maintenance and to train lower level employees in their job responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability in reading, understanding, and completing forms and reports
