Position Overview:
The advanced practice provider (APP), either a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, plays a crucial role within the acute care hospital environment, collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. This position is dedicated to delivering comprehensive medical care within the Nephrology Transplant Division of the Department of Medicine.
Key Responsibilities:
The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner assigned to the transplant Nephrology team will oversee the care of patients who have undergone kidney or pancreas transplant surgeries, managing their treatment in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and managing patients on the waitlist for kidney and/or pancreas transplants.
- Providing postoperative care for transplant recipients.
- Offering consultation services and participating in rounds with physicians and fellows.
Clinical Duties:
The APP will engage in a variety of clinical responsibilities, including:
- Conducting thorough patient histories and physical examinations.
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests.
- Prescribing medications and recommending non-pharmacological treatments.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions and making necessary referrals.
Leadership and Collaboration:
The Nurse Practitioner is expected to demonstrate leadership by:
- Actively participating in transplant committees.
- Engaging in team projects and educational initiatives.
- Seeking opportunities for practice improvement and professional development.
Professional Development:
In addition to clinical responsibilities, the APP will:
- Engage in mentoring and educational activities for graduate students.
- Participate in research and evidence-based practice analysis.
- Maintain continuing education units (CEUs) and professional organization memberships.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Master’s Degree in a relevant field.
- National Board Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- BLS certification.
