Job Summary

The Phlebotomist will be responsible for performing venipuncture procedures for clinical or medical testing and transfusions. This includes procuring blood samples from patients, labeling them accurately, and ensuring the integrity of specimens for proper transporting, processing, and preparation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify patients, observe correct procedures for venipuncture, collect and label specimens as outlined in medical requisitions.
  • Accurately print collection batch labels and labels for phlebotomy collections.
  • Adhere to infection control standards, handle specimens properly, and ensure timely delivery to the laboratory.
  • Process specimens for send-out according to appropriate procedures, ensuring timely processing and dispatch.
  • Participate in departmental process improvement, adhere to turnaround time guidelines, and ensure HIPAA compliance and regulatory standards.
Requirements
  • California Certified Phlebotomy Technician
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with lab/hospital computer systems and software
  • Applicable clinical lab work experience
  • Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families
