Job Summary

The Assistant Manager, Merchandising and Operations will play a critical role in managing overall store operations and achieving company goals and directives. This position requires a strong leader who can oversee the day-to-day activities of the store, including customer service, inventory management, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Customer Service
    • Provide exceptional customer service, ensuring a positive and welcoming experience for all customers.
    • Proactively assist customers in solving problems and addressing their needs.
    • Greet customers entering and throughout the store, thanking them when finished and when they are leaving.
    • Ensure all calls and pages are answered promptly, courteously, and effectively.
    • Handle customer complaints in a professional and respectful manner, working to resolve issues and maintain a positive relationship with the customer.
    • Possess excellent product knowledge and knowledge of store layout and location of products.
  • Store Operations
    • Ensure a positive, professional, and safe work environment for all associates.
    • Supervise the general operations of the entire store, including opening and closing procedures.
    • Assist with the implementation of company programs and initiatives.
    • Implement new Standard Operating Procedures into store execution.
    • Ensure successful Loss Prevention, Safety, and Internal Audits.
    • Work closely with the General Manager and Assistant Manager - Operations to achieve store goals and objectives.
    • Participate in weekly management staff meetings and communicate issues to the appropriate department with General Manager approval.
    • Assist with special projects within the district as set forth by the District Manager.
    • Oversee and assist with daily maintenance, orderliness, and cleanliness of the sales floor, stock room, and outdoor merchandise areas.
    • Assist with oversight of cashiering functions, including training, maintenance, audits, and reports.
    • Manage and direct preventative maintenance and repairs to maximize and protect physical assets.
    • Visit competition to stay informed about industry trends and best practices.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Inventory and Merchandising
    • Ensure forklift operations and receiving are completed safely and efficiently.
    • Oversee receiving, checking in, and stocking of merchandise to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
    • Responsible for maintaining back stock levels and ensuring adequate inventory levels.
    • Oversee and ensure cycle counts and negative on-hand reports are completed timely and accurately.
    • Manage ordering and maintaining desirable product inventory levels to ensure store profitability.
    • Oversee merchandise resets throughout the store.
    • Ensure all signage is current and accurate in the store.
    • Present a clean and orderly sales floor, including end caps and promotional and incremental merchandising.
  • Hiring and Training of Associates
    • Assist in training of all associates.
    • Actively recruit and promote the advancement of Westlake associates.
    • Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, reviewing, rewarding, and coaching Sales Associates and Department Specialists with General Manager approval.
  • Leadership
    • Manage all aspects of store operations in the absence of the General Manager.
    • Lead by example, being approachable by all associates and customers.
    • Participate in store meetings and communicate any merchandising, cost control, or sales ideas to the General Manager for follow-up.
    • Prepare and challenge yourself for future advancement.
    Requirements
    • High School or GED equivalent.
    • Previous retail management experience preferred, with hardware experience a plus.
    • Ability to stand, walk, lift (up to 25lbs), and climb.
