Job Title: Civil Engineer - Structure Representative

About the Role:
AECOM is seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer - Structure Representative to join our team in Orange, CA. As a key member of our infrastructure team, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with construction contract requirements, verifying field dimensions, and overseeing staff performing daily field inspections. You will also prepare daily diaries and maintain inspection records, review submittals, and assist the Resident Engineer with responses to Request for Information from the Contractor.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with construction contract requirements and shop drawings prepared by the contractor
  • Verify field dimensions, including vertical and horizontal field control for structures
  • Oversee staff performing daily field inspections
  • Prepare daily diaries and maintain inspection records
  • Review submittals, including shop drawings, product data, samples, test samples, and QA plans submitted by the contractor
  • Assist the Resident Engineer with responses to Request for Information from the Contractor for structure-related items
  • Verify compliance with applicable regulations controlling work, including CAL/OSHA
  • Inspect construction progress, ensuring procedures and materials comply with specifications and acceptable workmanship
  • Prepare reports, opinions, and recommendations for review by team leaders prior to submission to clients concerning the structures
  • Ensure conformance with standards, established engineering practices, applicable codes, and technical adequacy of design and construction
  • Keep abreast of new methods and developments
  • Perform general office administration, including report reproduction, collation, and deliveries
  • Perform calculations and acceptance of temporary structures used in construction of bridges and structures, including falsework, temporary shoring, working platforms, and temporary supports
  • Assist with preparing Change Orders
  • Prepare final as-builts
  • Perform constructability reviews

Requirements:
  • BA/BS with 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California
  • Driving is required for this position

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A minimum of six (6) years with bridge or structural construction inspection as related to major public works projects and a four-year degree in civil engineering is desired
  • A minimum of two (2) years as a Structural Representative on major public works projects
  • Knowledge of stress analysis, structural mechanics, and strength of materials
  • A thorough understanding of Cal-OSHA practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of Caltrans and Greenbook construction practices and the physical characteristics and properties of various bridge construction materials, including concrete
  • Experience in the following areas: foundations, pile driving, concrete pre-stressing, bridge deck construction, cast-in-place wall construction, falsework, and shoring
  • Ability to work independently and perform duties in the construction field office and effectively make decisions concerning construction work in progress and solving field problems
  • Ability to direct the efforts of subordinate inspectors
  • Ability to use an automatic level and transit for the purpose of verifying line and grade
  • Thorough understanding of Caltrans field methods, practices, and construction office procedures
