Job Title: Civil Engineer Structure Representative

AECOM is seeking a skilled Civil Engineer to join our team in Orange, CA.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with construction contract requirements and shop drawings prepared by contractors.
  • Verify field dimensions, including vertical and horizontal field control for structures.
  • Oversee staff performing daily field inspections.
  • Prepare daily diaries and maintain inspection records.
  • Review submittals, including shop drawings, product data, samples, test samples, and QA plans submitted by contractors.
  • Assist the Resident Engineer with responses to Request for Information from contractors for structure-related items.
  • Verify compliance with applicable regulations controlling work, including CAL/OSHA.
  • Inspect construction progress, ensuring procedures and materials comply with specifications and acceptable workmanship.
  • Prepare reports, opinions, and recommendations for review by team leaders prior to submission to clients concerning structures.
  • Ensure conformance with standards, established engineering practices, applicable codes, and technical adequacy of design and construction.
  • Stay up-to-date with new methods and developments.
  • Perform general office administration, including report reproduction, collation, and deliveries.
  • Perform calculations and acceptance of temporary structures used in construction of bridges and structures, including falsework, temporary shoring, working platforms, and temporary supports.
  • Assist with preparing Change Orders.
  • Prepare final as-builts.
  • Perform constructability reviews.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum Requirements:
    • BA/BS + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
    • Licensed Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California.
    • Driving is required for this position.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • A minimum of six (6) years with bridge or structural construction inspection as related to major public works projects and a four-year degree in civil engineering.
    • A minimum of two (2) years as a Structural Representative on major public works projects.
    • Knowledge of stress analysis, structural mechanics, and strength of materials.
    • A thorough understanding of Cal-OSHA practices and procedures.
    • Knowledge of Caltrans and Greenbook construction practices and the physical characteristics and properties of various bridge construction materials, including concrete.
    • Experience in the following areas: foundations, pile driving, concrete pre-stressing, bridge deck construction, cast-in-place wall construction, falsework, and shoring.
    • Ability to work independently and perform duties in the construction field office.
    • Ability to direct the efforts of subordinate inspectors.
    • Ability to use an automatic level and transit for verifying line and grade.
    • Thorough understanding of Caltrans field methods, practices, and construction office procedures.
