Reports To: Program Manager

Compensation: $21.00-$26.39 per hour, plus an additional $1.75 per hour for shifts worked between 6pm-6am

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 10:00am-7:00pm

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt, Union

Probation: 90 days

Department Overview: The Los Angeles LGBT Center is dedicated to enhancing its core services across various locations in Los Angeles, specifically targeting Black and Latinx communities that experience significant challenges in social support and healthcare access. This initiative is part of the Community Programs Department, which encompasses various programs including The Trans Wellness Center, Mi Centro, Center South, and more.

Role Summary: Under the guidance of the Program Manager, the Program Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the operations of the Trans Wellness Center. The primary responsibilities include assisting with educational and empowerment initiatives, managing front desk operations, and coordinating special events.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage front desk operations to ensure clients are directed to appropriate services.
  2. Support the Trans Wellness Center by organizing monthly group schedules and coordinating with facilitators.
  3. Assist in the planning and execution of the Trans Pride L.A. festival.
  4. Facilitate in-person social events, including setup and breakdown.
  5. Respond to community inquiries and schedule meetings with potential instructors.
  6. Handle communications promptly with individuals seeking assistance.
  7. Process invoices related to instructor payments and program finances.
  8. Conduct outreach for the Trans Wellness Center at external LGBTQ events.
  9. Collaborate with the Trans Lounge on binder donation initiatives.
  10. Help coordinate events such as the Trans Wellness Center Gala and quarterly screenings.
  11. Work with legal agencies to facilitate gender and name change clinics.
  12. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
  13. Adhere to security protocols regarding safety and access.
  14. Assist with administrative tasks and outreach efforts.
  15. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Experience or knowledge of the LGBTQ community and relevant issues.
  2. A strong commitment to the mission of improving the lives of LGBTQ individuals.
  3. Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic bookkeeping.
  5. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
  6. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  7. Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are a plus.
  8. Proven ability to work effectively in a diverse and multicultural environment.
