Job Title: Fire Department Officer

Location: City of Beaufort

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Fire Department Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing emergency medical treatment, performing fire suppression duties, and participating in vehicle and equipment inspections.

Key Responsibilities:

• Respond to emergency calls and provide medical treatment to victims

• Perform fire suppression duties to protect people and property

• Participate in vehicle, equipment, and facility inspections and maintenance

• Test fire hoses for proper condition and participate in fire prevention education activities

• Prepare pre-fire plans and participate in volunteer training

• Perform station and grounds maintenance as needed

• Complete and submit reports regarding shift activities

• Stay up-to-date with new technology, methods, and regulations for fire prevention and suppression operations

• Remain on call 24 hours a day for emergencies

• Operate fire engines, motor boats, and motor vehicles, and utilize all fire suppression equipment, hand and power tools, self-contained breathing apparatus, emergency medical equipment, and instruments

• Interact and communicate with various groups and individuals, including supervisors, other officers, coworkers, volunteers, city personnel, other fire departments, and law enforcement personnel

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by training in fire service programs

• Ability to operate a variety of machines and equipment, including vehicles, firefighting equipment, rescue and medical equipment, and computer

• Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects

• Ability to remain on feet for periods of time, withstand uncomfortable and/or dangerous physical conditions at fire scenes, and perform manual tasks

• Ability to lift, pull, position, and/or drag weights of up to 150 pounds

• Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics of data, people, or things

• Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information

• Ability to read a variety of policy and procedure manuals, technical manuals, maps, training manuals, and other documents

• Ability to prepare routine reports, records, and other documents with proper format

• Ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control, and confidence

• Salary: $14.42 per hour
