Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Aviation Safety Inspector to join our team at the Department of Transportation. As a Principal Operations Inspector, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of the aviation industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct surveillance and inspections of air carriers and operators to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs)
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with other agencies and stakeholders to identify and mitigate safety risks
  • Provide technical guidance and support to air carriers and operators on safety-related matters
  • Participate in the investigation of accidents and incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
Requirements
  • Valid second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations
  • Professional flying skill demonstrated in a flight check to Commercial Pilot Certificate with an instrument rating
  • Possession of Airline Transport Pilot Certificate or Commercial Pilot Certificate with instrument airplane rating
  • Minimum of 100 flight hours within the last 3 years
  • Minimum of 1,500 total flight hours
  • Possession of single and multi-engine land airplane ratings
  • Not more than 2 flying accidents in the last 5 years involving the applicant's pilot error
  • Possession of a valid second-class FAA medical certificate
Specialized Experience

Applicants must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-I/FG-13 level. Specialized experience is defined as assisting, conducting, or performing various technical functions related to certification, surveillance, investigation, and compliance recommendation of operational activities for FAR Part 135 air carriers/air operators.

The recency of specialized experience is waived for current FAA employees in the 1825 series. Applicants should include examples of specialized experience in their work history.
