Responsibilities & Duties

We are seeking a Lead Survey Project Strategist to enhance our team.

  • Candidates should have a strong enthusiasm for cultivating client relationships, promoting engineering and surveying services, and managing personnel.
  • Oversee, direct, and coordinate operations, including project managers, survey staff, technicians, and field activities.
  • Manage primary contracts encompassing fee estimation, project initiation, and work execution.
  • Develop work plans, assemble project teams, assign tasks, and ensure adherence to scope and timely completion.
  • Generate client invoices, deliverables, and project-related communications.
  • Accountable for the accuracy, timeliness, and financial outcomes of assigned projects.
  • Business Development: Cultivate and sustain relationships with both existing and prospective clients.
  • Capable of preparing proposals, cost estimates, plats, legal descriptions, sketches, roadway databases, topographic surveys, and computing survey data.
  • Assist in evaluating the performance of project team members through Project Staff Reviews.
  • Communicate significant performance issues to team members and leadership to facilitate appropriate actions.

Position Requirements:

  • Candidates must hold a SC Licensed Professional Land Surveyor designation. Other state registrations are advantageous.
  • Experience with the North Carolina Department of Transportation is essential.
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D software is required.
  • Familiarity with Trimble Business Center, Microstation, Geopack, and OpenRoads software is preferred.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of years of professional experience is necessary.
  • Relevant professional certification is preferred.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based on the position.

Performance Expectations

  • Complete the Annual Individual Training Program.
  • Mentor and train staff members.
  • Ensure adequate backup personnel are trained to support your role in your absence.
  • Foster and maintain customer relationships by soliciting monthly performance feedback, identifying client needs, and recognizing future project opportunities.
  • Adhere to all KCI policies and procedures.
  • Ensure projects meet ISO compliance standards.
  • Manage the work routines of all assigned staff and allocate job activities as necessary.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
  • Contribute to the development of project-specific safety plans and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Report monthly proposal outcomes to the operations manager.
  • Achieve or surpass the budgeted individual utilization target (typically 75%-80%).
  • Attend bi-weekly (or more frequent as needed) meetings with the project team on all projects/tasks.
  • Chart and present project performance results.
  • Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required.
  • Deliver all projects on schedule and within budget while fully meeting the scope.
  • Ensure effective utilization of equipment and personnel.
  • Meet monthly (or more frequently as necessary) with project analysts to review project invoices.
  • Meet monthly with leadership to assess project performance.
  • Operate within specified budget parameters (corporate or project).
  • Prepare and submit monthly project completion reports.
  • Prepare interpractice agreements and/or outside requests as necessary.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports for all projects.
  • Prepare monthly project staff utilization plans.
  • Propose and negotiate scope, schedule, and fee estimates for tasks and projects.
  • Provide bi-weekly percent complete data to project assistants.
  • Provide monthly project updates to leadership.
  • Provide monthly WIP/AR comments to the operations manager.
  • Offer technical project and staff oversight.
  • Provide weekly new project budget data to leadership.
  • Serve as project or task manager on select projects.
  • Compare field data to design plans.
  • Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes, and photographs as necessary.
  • Prepare preliminary concept designs and submit for approval.
  • Read and interpret technical documents required for project execution.
