Position: Vehicle Maintenance Operations Manager
REPORTS TO: Senior Vehicle Maintenance Manager
OBJECTIVE: Under the guidance of the Senior Vehicle Maintenance Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for strategizing, coordinating, and overseeing the upkeep and repair of fixed route and paratransit buses, along with other vehicles and equipment during designated shifts. This role includes conducting quality assurance evaluations to guarantee the safety and dependability of the fleet. The Operations Manager directly supervises a team comprising Mechanics, Mechanic Specialists, Repair Technicians, General Assistants, and Laborers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Guarantee that all vehicles are maintained in a clean, safe, and operational state, ensuring Revenue Vehicles are ready for daily service
- Review maintenance records and schedule necessary repairs
- Oversee all mechanics and maintenance personnel during assigned shifts
- Determine work priorities for the shift
- Delegate tasks to mechanics based on their skills and experience
- Provide guidance and technical support to mechanics as needed
- Assess appropriate responses to road service requests
- Ensure adherence to labor agreements
- Enforce safety protocols
- Address performance issues among mechanics and recommend disciplinary actions to the Senior Manager when necessary
- Propose improvements in working conditions and equipment usage to enhance maintenance efficiency
- Initiate or recommend strategies to motivate staff towards achieving operational goals
- Coordinate and supervise corrective and preventive maintenance in line with company policies and financial considerations
- Report maintenance concerns to facilities management and provide summaries of recommendations
- Ensure compliance with established safety, training, and quality assurance standards
- Stay informed about advancements in automotive technology and the transit sector
- Respond to operator reports and road service calls
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Participate in required training sessions
- Perform other job-related tasks as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferred minimum of five years of progressive experience in fleet maintenance and repair within a public transit environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- A minimum of a two-year degree or certification from a technical or community college, two years of experience in automotive or heavy-duty vehicle mechanics, and three years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Any combination of experience, education, and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job effectively
- Valid Driver's License is required
- This position is classified as Safety Sensitive and is subject to all testing provisions under the Drug and Alcohol Policy, including random testing
- Additional licenses, certifications, and requirements may be necessary to meet the operational needs of the organization
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent walking and standing
- Occasional to moderate sitting at a workstation, interspersed with other activities
- Occasional walking, typically within the work area
- Occasional climbing of steps
- Physical demands may vary based on individual capabilities
- Work environment may involve exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures
