Assistant Store Manager Role

The Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Store Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Store Manager in overseeing customer service standards.
  • Assist in addressing and resolving customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Ensure adherence to all ABC policies regarding ID verification.
  • Implement effective merchandising strategies.
  • Manage store financials and cash handling.
  • Oversee inventory management.
  • Assist in training staff on product knowledge, customer service, and sales techniques.
  • Help establish and maintain procedures that align with store policies and legal requirements.
  • Supervise staff and foster employee development in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Be available for shifts with minimal notice.
  • Work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and during adverse weather conditions. On delivery days, hours may extend beyond regular business hours (e.g., 5:30 am) and on inventory days may require working late into the night.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Understanding of retail operations and best practices.
  • Experience supervising employees in a retail setting.
  • Proven track record of delivering excellent customer service and problem-solving.
  • Experience with cash management and inventory control.
  • Background in retail management, including shift leadership.
  • Proficient in using computers and electronic point of sale systems.
  • Familiarity with general software applications (Microsoft Word and Excel) and retail-specific software.
  • Experience in staffing and recruitment processes.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
  • Capability to manage stress and multitask effectively.
  • Strong communication skills for interaction with customers and staff.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 65 lbs.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years of experience in retail management.
