This position is part of a union. The compensation rate is $34.19.
The role involves a variety of responsibilities related to the operation of railroad equipment, ensuring safe and efficient train movements. Key duties include:
- Receiving directives for train operations and documenting completed activities.
- Overseeing and coordinating the efforts of team members engaged in train movements and car placements.
- Operating locomotives and other rail equipment as required.
- Positioning railroad cars accurately within tight tolerances for unloading.
- Monitoring tracks for potential hazards.
- Conducting inspections of equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Making minor repairs and adjustments to equipment as necessary.
- Managing track switches to direct trains and cars appropriately.
- Setting safety signals during emergencies.
- Maintaining cleanliness and performing routine maintenance on assigned locomotives and equipment.
- Preparing reports on incidents or accidents as needed.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as required.
Qualifications:
Preferred: Experience in handling hazardous materials.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of railroad equipment and operations.
- Ability to perform maintenance tasks with minimal oversight.
- A minimum of five years of verified experience in a rail-related role.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Compliance with safety footwear standards.
- Successful candidates will undergo a security clearance process and must maintain eligibility for access to all operational areas.
Physical Demands:
Daily activities include:
- Frequent walking and standing.
- Climbing to access locomotives.
- Frequent bending and stooping.
- Lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Personal protective equipment is mandatory for this role.
