Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse to join our team at Christus Health. As a Licensed Vocational Nurse, you will provide professional nursing care to clinic patients, working collaboratively with providers to ensure quality care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide general nursing care to patients, administering treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Assist with the preparation of equipment and aid providers during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  • Observe, record, and report patients' condition and reaction to drugs or treatments to providers.
  • Oversee appointment bookings and ensure preferences are given to patients in emergency situations, maintaining a timely flow of patients.
  • Greets patients and obtains well-documented history and vitals, prepares patients for physical exam, and instructs patients in collection of samples and tests.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with established procedures and as prescribed by applicable licensure/certification, including:
  • Obtaining/recorded vital signs, performing initial assessment on patient, coordinating patient transfer to hospital and/or discharge, giving telephone orders, accepting telephone test results, performing telephone triage, calling in provider-approved prescription refills, specimen collection, catheterizing patient, indwelling catheter urine collection, obtaining throat culture, pregnancy testing, administering urine dip, obtaining wound culture, performing snellen vision screening, eye injury management, administering optic/otic meds, assisting with lumbar punctures, sputum collection, occult blood testing, assisting with vaginal exam, teaching crutch/cane walking, teaching use of walker, applying Velcro splint, assisting with plaster splint, applying moist heat and/or cold packs, administering enema, removing fecal impaction, administering oxygen, teaching respiratory hygiene, administering chest physiotherapy, performing oral suction and/or infant suction bulb, wound care, applying sterile dressing, assisting with circumcision, performing umbilical care, applying colloid dressing, opening sterile tray, applying topical medications, administering rectal and/or vaginal medications, giving oral medications, and giving sublingual medications to adults and/or pediatric patients.
  • Perform tasks only if appropriate training has been obtained, including:
  • Blood collection by lancet, pulse oximetry, incentive Spirometry, suture and/or staple removal, ear irrigation, administering breathing treatment, giving allergy/insulin/immunization medications to adult and/or pediatric patients, giving intramuscular and/or subcutaneous injections to adult and/or pediatric patients, giving injections Z track to adult patients.
  • Perform tasks after providing verification of completion of special training, including:
  • Blood collection venipuncture, audiometry exam, titmus vision screening, EKG, administering electrical stimulation, assisting/process biopsies, drawing blood from portocath, assisting endoscopy, starting saline lock or IV fluids and monitoring IV fluids.
  • May administer IV push medications and/or add medications to IV only after completion of special training and only under direct supervision of licensed practitioner.
  • May make arrangements for patient testing and admissions.
  • May be required to have a working knowledge of ICD9, CPT and HCPCS coding and managed care.
  • Responds to incoming telephone calls and (per provider instructions) calls in refills and prescriptions to pharmacy.
  • Per provider and/or established protocol, instructs patients and/or family with regard to medication and treatment and documents the same.
  • Formulates and updates patient care plans. Orders, prepares, and inspects patient charts. Posts tests and examination results. Reviews patient's tests and examination results with provider; documents instructions and notifies patient.
  • Maintains patient files, records and other information in a professional manner following policies and procedures regarding documentation.
  • Ensures preparation of exam rooms including re-stocking of treatment areas.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional licensure and affiliations.
  • Follows the CHRISTUS Physician Group guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Uses oral and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas in a clear, positive manner that is consistent with the CHRISTUS Mission.
  • Maintains established CHRISTUS Physician Group policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
  • Implements job responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the CHRISTUS Mission and Code of Ethics and supportive of CHRISTUS Physician Group's cultural diversity objectives.
  • Supports and adheres to CPG Service Guarantee.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Requirements:

  • CERT
  • LVN License in state of employment or compact
  • BLS

Work Type:
