Job Overview

Position Summary:

We are looking for a proficient Mechanical Technician with expertise in electro-mechanical systems. The selected candidate will take charge of maintenance, diagnostics, and repair operations on mechanical systems and equipment. A solid foundation in mechanical principles and experience with down-hole drilling apparatus, particularly in power generation, electro-mechanical hydraulic assemblies, and measurements while drilling (MWD) tools, is essential.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough cleaning, inspection, repair, and testing of the HALO RSS in line with the RSS Competency Standard and relevant Maintenance & Service Instructions. Ensure all maintenance documentation and quality control checks, including status tagging, are completed.
  • Execute diagnostic evaluations on complete tool assemblies and the subassemblies that form the HALO RSS system.
  • Perform Calibration & Verification tests as necessary, including Hydraulic Force tests, QC roll tests of sensors, and related documentation.
  • Maintain all Repair & Maintenance documentation, such as checklists, maintenance logs, and inventory records, and prepare Pre- and Post-Job reports to ensure both electronic and physical records are up to date. This may involve using SAP MRP/ERP or other systems.
  • Actively contribute to discussions on safety, processes, workflows, or reliability to enhance tools, work environments, or procedures.
  • Assist and learn from the Shop Supervisor and Lead Technicians, as well as through our Sustaining/Reliability Engineering initiatives.
  • Develop necessary skills in testing, troubleshooting, and failure analysis to accurately and consistently update relevant documentation.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Complete and maintain required online HSE training, including Safety Training, ESD Awareness, Lithium Battery Safety, forklift, overhead crane, and any other assigned training necessary for specific tasks.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of hand tools and equipment, reporting any deficiencies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workplace through exemplary housekeeping practices.
  • Be prepared to work overtime as necessary to fulfill departmental commitments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Technical understanding of Drilling Systems Products & Services.
  • Familiarity with oil field services.
  • Experience in a technical trade.
  • Knowledge of torque master, overhead crane, and forklift operations.
  • Ability to utilize calipers, micrometers, height gauges, protractors, and go/nogo ring and plug gauges.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other documents to ascertain specifications.
  • Adept at reviewing and comprehending complex mechanical assemblies.
  • Proficient in working with hydraulic, electronic, and electromechanical systems.
  • Skilled in following mechanical and electronic assembly procedures.
  • Capable of identifying and articulating technical issues using logical troubleshooting methods.
  • Electrical skills, including the use of multi-meters and megohm meters.
  • Basic computer skills with experience in data entry and office software.
  • Able to function effectively in a team setting.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent organizational and self-motivation abilities.

Education, Experience, Certification, and Training:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in maintenance of oil field or military equipment.
  • Hands-on training with mechanical, hydraulic, or electronic tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve issues.
  • Familiarity with basic software applications, including MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom, Internet Explorer).
  • Experience with SAP is a plus.

Work Environment, Physical Job Requirements, and PPE:

  • Ability to perform various physical activities, including walking, standing, kneeling, pushing, stooping, reaching, grasping, pulling, bending, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 45 lbs.
  • Work conditions may involve both indoor and outdoor environments, proximity to machinery with moving parts, and exposure to radiant and electrical energy. Must be able to work extended or irregular hours and travel as needed.
  • Equipment used includes computers, calculators, copiers, fax machines, telephones, and vehicles. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn, including safety glasses, hard hats, reinforced toe shoes, coveralls, gloves, and hearing protection.
  • Reliability and punctuality are essential, with the expectation to be available for on-call weekend support as part of a team effort.
