Position Summary

ValidaTek is in search of a Mainframe Services Subject Matter Expert (SME) who will leverage their technical expertise in the architecture, deployment, and maintenance of mainframe systems and associated applications. This role necessitates proven experience with various z/VM and z/OS hardware and software within the operational environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical design, development, and implementation of mainframe systems and services, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to create and maintain a detailed mainframe service catalog, including service level agreements (SLAs) and service descriptions.
  • Conduct periodic assessments of the mainframe environment to pinpoint areas for enhancement, implementing strategies to boost performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on mainframe-related topics, offering guidance and support to other IT teams as necessary.
  • Engage with vendors to assess and integrate new mainframe technologies and solutions, ensuring compatibility with existing systems.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for mainframe systems and services, including procedures, policies, and standards.
  • Create and deliver training programs to educate IT personnel and end-users on mainframe systems and services.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing, ensuring the mainframe environment can be restored swiftly and effectively in the event of a disaster.
Qualifications
  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in mainframe systems administration, focusing on z/OS and related technologies.
  • Experience in generating and maintaining system engineering and technical architecture documentation.
  • Proficient in generating and maintaining requirements, testing and evaluating potential future technical architectures, analyzing and resolving complex system issues, and providing technical guidance based on expertise.
  • Strong understanding of large, complex IT mainframe systems.
  • Experience and technical skills in z/OS environments utilizing Job Entry Subsystem 2 (JES2), System Display and Search Facility (SDSF), Time Sharing Option (TSO), TSO/Interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF), Access Control Facility (ACF2), Customer Information Control System (CICS), and DB2 in a multi-CPU environment.
  • Systems programming experience in IBM z/VM.
  • System administration experience in z/Linux operating systems such as RedHat and SuSe within the IBM z/VM hypervisor.
  • Familiarity with current IBM mainframe hardware platforms, including z9, z10, z196, and zBC12.
  • Expertise in count-key DASD storage systems, particularly EMC VMAX systems, including Business Continuance Volume (BCV), Timefinder, and Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF) functions.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with robotic tape libraries, including SL-8500, SL-3000, StorageTek (STK)/Sun/Oracle Virtual Storage Manager (VSM), and T10ktape drives.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of TSO/ISPF, System Modification Program/Extended (SMP/E), and IBM-related utility programs (e.g., IDCAMS, IEBCOPY, Fast Dump Restore (FDR), Data Facility Data Set Services (DFDSS), z/OS file structures, Integrated Catalog Facility (ICF) Catalogs, Virtual Storage Access Method (VSAM), and zFS file systems).
  • Experience with the configuration and management of IBM's Communication Server IP and its subcomponents (TN3270, FTP, SYSLOGD, Policy Agent, InfoPrint Server, SMTP, SNMP, OMPROUTE, etc.).
  • Knowledge and experience with z/OS network monitoring software such as NETVIEW, Williams Data Systems IMPLEX, Exigence, and FTP Alert.
  • Experience with the configuration and management of communications server VTAM and its subcomponent features (Enterprise Extender and Advanced Peer to Peer Network (APPN)).
Salary Information

Posted Min Pay Rate: USD $95,577.60/Yr.

Posted Max Pay Rate: USD $159,296.00/Yr.

Salary Disclosure

Actual salary will be determined based on various factors, including experience, geographic location, contract affordability, internal equity, education, and certifications. The upper end of the salary range may be reserved for individuals demonstrating tenure with the company, seniority, and proven exceptional performance, including education, certifications, and extensive/unique experience beyond the basic requirements.
