Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Raytheon. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for developing technical solutions for a wide range of moving element challenges, including aerodynamic steering, thrust vectoring, and attitude-and-divert maneuvering of missile systems and subsystems.

Responsibilities
  • Develop technical solutions for complex system problems, applying sound mechanical engineering principles and collaborating with cross-discipline teams.
  • Contribute to the entire life cycle of the product, from conceptualizing and design to prototyping, manufacturing, integration, and verification testing.
  • Apply expertise in mechanical engineering principles, including requirements development, concept development, trade study evaluation, and free-body diagram generation.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering, systems engineering, flight science, manufacturing engineering, supply chain, and other teams to ensure successful system integration.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to the development of technical documentation, including requirements, design specifications, and test procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior mechanical engineering experience, or an Advanced degree in a related field and a minimum of 8 years' experience.
  • Proven experience in developing different actuation drive systems, including power management, motor and/or gear train sizing and implementation, and associated bearing configurations for optimization of friction and position accuracy.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Eight (8) years of experience with Systems or Mechanical Engineering of servo controls.
  • Experience with development of CAS requirements, CAS architecture, requirements risk, requirements verification and validation, system performance & function, safety and environmental compliance.
  • Experience in working with control actuation systems that employ permanent magnet brush and brushless DC motor technology.
  • Experience with feedback control systems, including sizing, testing and integration, design-for-manufacturing, kinematic and dynamic simulation and analysis.

Clearance Information

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process.
