Job Summary

The Manufacturing Estimator is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patrons and potential customers throughout the request for quote (RFQ), estimating and ordering processes. This is achieved by providing professional, prompt, and timely communications and by offering competitive price quotations, delivering appropriate follow-up and ensuring order entries are comprehensive. An estimator's success is evaluated on their customer service, quote output, and sales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect, understand, and analyze customer requirements/needs; convert requirements into a production cost estimate including labor and equipment.
  • Deliver excellent service throughout the RFQ process.
  • Examine documents (industrial prints, drawings, change orders, and specifications), verify completeness and accuracy of data.
  • Confer with document originators (or customer's engineering liaison personnel), resolve discrepancies and implement changes to documents.
  • Compare customer requirements and needs to our capabilities and capacities to determine if we can meet customer expectations and if not determine what it would take to meet the challenge.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and outside resources to obtain information necessary to accurately estimate costs.
  • Verify tooling availability, seek tooling quotations if new or additional tooling is required, document costs on RFQ.
  • Produce and deliver competitive price quotations to customers in a timely manner.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate, timely follow-up communications with customers on quote status, report customer concerns to appropriate personnel and gain feedback on your performance.
  • Provide recommendations regarding the feasibility of using alternative approaches, modifying, or replacing equipment to reduce costs or improve quality.
  • Investigate problems and initiate effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Review complete quotes before submission to customers.
  • Enter sales orders accurately.
  • Build complete work order routers detailing all customer and product requirements.
  • Monitor your quote win percentage and sales and continually strive to improve these metrics.
  • Meet/surpass sales goals while maintaining healthy profit margin.
  • Maintain and increase knowledge of Sharpe's capacity, capabilities, possibilities, and/or our limitations of our manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and related technology.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Working knowledge in manufacturing, preferably in the metal fabrication industry.
  • Two years successful track record as an estimator in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read industrial part prints and interpret drawings.
  • Must have math skills: multiplication, division, percentages, fractions, conversion of units of measure.
  • Computer skills: web navigation, document scanning, typing, Excel, Word, Outlook, Microsoft office applications competency, experience with other company-specific program(s). We use Global Shop - we will provide in-house training.
  • Effective and professional communications skills - verbal and written.
  • Detail-oriented and ability to multitask.
  • Time management skills, ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations such as maintaining timely order entry and order accuracy during heavy or varying work loads.
  • Logical trouble-shooting skills.
  • Work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with the ability to be flexible.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role is routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. At times, it is necessary to go out onto the production floor to consult with plant manager or employees. Employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Use of proper PPE is required while in the production shop.
