Job Description:

The General Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all utility efforts to ensure that projects are completed in accordance with safety, design, budget, and schedule. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills to work effectively with other departments, employees, contractors, and outside agencies.

A Day in the Life:
  • Manage day-to-day operations in the field, including scheduling and coordinating labor resources, determining materials quantity and delivery, and ensuring timely completion of timecards, logs, estimates, and reports.
  • Oversee crew mobilization, moves, and ensure effective communication between clients, project managers, and superintendents.
  • Provide guidance to crews on maintaining a safe working environment, enforcing company safety guidelines, OSHA guidelines, and other applicable safety standards.
  • Ensure all work follows specified quality standards, inspecting field work for quality compliance, materials for quality compliance, and reviewing assembly of manufacturer's literature and drawings.
  • Control costs through efficient utilization of manpower, equipment, materials, and other resources to minimize cost.
  • Remain informed of progress on all jobs assigned and instruct Superintendents on issues and areas of concern.
  • Ensure proper authorizations are obtained before beginning work on extras and change orders, and control and monitor all change orders and extra work orders to ensure field completion.
  • Maintain knowledge of local, county, and state rules and regulations relating to projects and inform crews of how to act accordingly.
  • Produce and communicate Workforce Schedule for projects to keep division crews active and balanced, track project budgets, and work to complete projects within assigned budget.
  • Manage field personnel in a fair and equitable manner, addressing performance issues as they occur, and regularly complete daily reports to record performance of associates.
  • Oversee team dynamics for maximum productivity, quality, and safety, and support and participate in training.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss project start-up and future plans, prepare and participate in regular job site meetings throughout the project, and assure that Veit's Leadership is informed on all matters of relative importance.
  • Stay up-to-date on construction means, methods, and procedures.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Superintendent overseeing construction work, preferably Utilities.
  • HAZWOPER, OSHA 10 HOUR, OSHA 30 HOUR, Pipelayers card, Excavating Safety Training, Confined Space, Blueprint Reading, CPR, First Aid certifications or the ability to obtain.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, iPad, and iPhone.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, reports, construction plans, construction specifications, and legal documents.
  • Ability to communicate and schedule project needs appropriately.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with employees, clients, and other business associates.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to speak effectively before groups as well as individuals.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical field quantity situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
What Will Set You Apart:
  • Working knowledge of HCSS Software Suite is preferred but not required.
Supervisory Responsibility:
  • Manages Utility Project Superintendents/Foremen.
Other:
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Position requires 8 to 10-hour workdays and occasional weekends, as needed.
  • Must be over the age of 18.
  • Union affiliation or willingness to join the union if necessary.
  • Requires travel throughout the United States (100%).

Occasionally exposed to electrical hazards. May be exposed to environmental conditions, loud noises, and variable weather including rain, snow, wind, cold, and heat.
