Overview:

The Breastfeeding Support Specialist is a dedicated professional who conducts evaluations for both inpatient and outpatient clients referred for personalized breastfeeding guidance and education. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of maternal and infant health practices, human anatomy, and clinical breastfeeding challenges. The specialist is accountable for delivering tailored care to breastfeeding patients and serves as a valuable resource for the interdisciplinary team, including nursing staff, physicians, and social workers. Additionally, the Breastfeeding Support Specialist extends ongoing assistance to our community of new parents beyond the arrival of their child.

Key Responsibilities:

1) Conducts thorough evaluations for inpatients and outpatients referred for personalized breastfeeding consultations and education. Designs, implements, and assesses individualized breastfeeding instruction based on patient evaluations and medical care plans. Educates patients and their support systems on effective breastfeeding practices. Records all elements of breastfeeding education provided.

2) Cultivates and maintains strong interpersonal skills that align with the organization's values, fostering positive relationships with patients, their families, medical personnel, and fellow staff members.

3) Engages in professional development and educational initiatives. Keeps skills current and stays informed about the latest knowledge through professional literature and conferences, as demonstrated by participation records.

4) Offers educational support to the interdisciplinary team as requested or necessary.

5) Provides continuous support and education to new families following the birth of their child, utilizing phone consultations, breastfeeding support groups, and community outreach events.

6) Collaborates with Nursing Administration and Management in all facets of the Breastfeeding Support Program.

Required Experience:

1) 3-5 years of experience working with mothers and infants.

Preferred Experience:

1) 1-3 years of experience as a Breastfeeding Support Specialist.

Skills and Competencies:

1) Exceptional assessment abilities, capable of developing, implementing, and evaluating breastfeeding care plans.
