Position Overview:

The Trails and Recreation Program Coordinator plays a vital role within the Access and Landowner Relations Bureau, focusing on the management of the Montana Trail Stewardship Grant Program. This position is essential in delivering exceptional service to both grant applicants and recipients, while ensuring adherence to relevant fiduciary and administrative standards.

The role necessitates effective collaboration and communication with various staff members across the Access and Landowner Relations Bureau and the Financial Assistance and Compliance Bureau. The Trails and Recreation Program Coordinator must engage in interdisciplinary teamwork and maintain close communication with other personnel to ensure optimal service delivery to the public and the resources involved. Additional responsibilities may include tasks related to recreational access initiatives and trails planning and coordination. The position reports directly to the Bureau Chief of Access and Landowner Relations.

Key Responsibilities:

This role is tasked with the comprehensive administration and support of the Montana Trail Stewardship Grant Program, which is a significant multi-million dollar initiative. Responsibilities include:

  • Leadership and coordination of program development and implementation.
  • Administration, recordkeeping, and financial tracking related to the grant program.
  • Managing external communications and inquiries.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

A valid Driver's License is required, along with the ability to obtain a Montana Driver's License in accordance with state laws. The position involves some travel (approximately 20%) for training sessions, meetings, and field inspections of projects.

The employee may be required to work during weekends and evenings, depending on the schedule of meetings or field duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates typically possess a bachelor's degree in Natural Resources Management, Parks & Recreation Management, Education, Public Administration, or Business Administration, along with a minimum of three years of relevant experience. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

A solid understanding of computing systems and their application in business contexts is necessary. Experience in financial recordkeeping, grant administration, and fostering positive relationships with various stakeholder groups is also essential. A background or interest in safety and education is highly valued.
