Senior Research Engineer, Building Simulation Lead

Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Engineer, Building Simulation Lead to join our Research and Consulting team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and delivering energy simulation studies, collaborating with a team of energy simulation analysts, and supporting the development and maintenance of building simulation and analysis frameworks.
Responsibilities- Develop and deliver energy simulation studies, collaborating with a team of energy simulation analysts.
- Support the development and maintenance of building simulation and analysis frameworks.
- Conduct technical analysis in support of developing policy solutions, such as building energy codes and local ordinances.
- Assist with troubleshooting and developing solutions to complex energy simulation challenges.
- Work with multi-disciplinary teams, speaking to the best practices and technical execution of building simulation.
- Conduct quality control review of the work of peers and junior staff.
- Translate results into actionable recommendations and communicate via written reports and graphical presentations.
- Conduct meetings and presentations.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior staff.
- University degree in Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, Physics, or related discipline.
- Minimum of four years' experience in building simulation analysis, including graduate research using building simulation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of building science and building systems, including envelope, HVAC, DHW, and control systems.
- Understanding of the fundamentals of building simulation engines and underlying algorithms.
- Demonstrated expertise with at least one simulation engine, such as Energy Plus.
- Ability to support multiple projects, meet deadlines, work both independently and collaboratively, and communicate effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Track record working with clients to communicate research methods and findings.
- Familiarity with energy codes, such as CA Title 24, ASHRAE 90.1, and ICC.
- Experience with multiple building simulation engines, user interfaces, and other third-party tools for optimization and parametric analysis.
- Experience with large-scale parametric building simulation using Ruby or Python.
- Experience independently developing research plans and executing research related to building energy use, particularly using building energy simulation.
- Experience with California compliance tools, CBECC, and CBECC-RES.
