DeafBlind Interpreting Services Coordinator

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Coordinator of Interpreting Services to join our team at Helen Keller Services. As a key member of our Direct Services department, you will be responsible for ensuring effective communication access for our DeafBlind consumers, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate interpreting services for DeafBlind consumers, staff, and visitors, including special events, to ensure quality and meet expressed needs.
- Develop and maintain an accurate departmental schedule for providing interpreting services.
- Supervise and evaluate the work performance of Staff Interpreters and Interns, providing coaching and mentoring to improve interpreting services.
- Provide consumer education on interpreting issues, advocacy, and SSPs/CoNavigators.
- Assign and become familiar with the instructional programs of consumers to advise, counsel, and guide the delivery of services.
- Provide or collaborate with initial sign communication assessments for individuals with sign language as their preferred method of communication.
- Submit reports to document student progress toward goals of sign language skills development, knowledge of interpreting services, and SSP/CoNavigator training.
- Investigate and evaluate new trends in the interpreting field and recommend changes in the provision of these services at HKNC.
- Maintain outcome data and write an annual report for the department, identifying appropriate departmental goals and implementing activities to support and accomplish these goals.
- Chair departmental meetings to share information, facilitate discussion of meeting concerns, and implement initiatives and support department staff with day-to-day activities.
- Provide in-service training for staff members, professionals, and family members on related subject areas, such as interpreting issues, communication skills, SSPs, etc.
- Participate in supervisory meetings with the Director - Direct Services and other department supervisors to ensure quality services, program development, and consumer satisfaction.
- Attend conferences, workshops, seminars, etc., where appropriate.
- RID Certification, CI, CT, and CIT preferred.
- Five years of interpreting experience.
- Knowledge of deaf and deaf-blind culture required.
- Two years of supervisory experience preferred.
