Your responsibilities will encompass oversight of fixed assets, asset retirement obligations, inventory management, project planning, and new generation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation of journal entries, accounting analyses, and monthly reconciliations, ensuring adherence to departmental standards. Analyze financial data and reports to guarantee accuracy and compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards. Mentor and guide accounting staff in their tasks.
  • Lead initiatives to provide additional accounting support for routine and special financial analyses, SEC reporting, and the implementation of new accounting processes, as well as internal control and compliance activities.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements and reports for entities managed by Oglethorpe, ensuring compliance with GAAP and regulatory guidelines, including variance analysis explanations.
  • Compile necessary documentation for internal and external audits and participate in business process evaluations.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for significant business processes, accounting policies, and job responsibilities.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in general accounting.
  • Equivalent Experience: At least 3 years in public accounting.
  • Skills: Strong communication abilities across all organizational levels. Proficient in Microsoft Office and experienced with general ledger systems and reporting tools. Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Experience in the utilities sector, particularly with Power Plan, FERC accounting, or RUS reporting, is highly desirable.
  • Certifications: CPA certification is required.
Work Schedule: This position may require extended hours, including weekends, particularly during month-end and quarter-end closes, with increased demands during year-end close and audit periods. Additional hours may also be necessary for system upgrades or conversions.
