Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare journal entries, conduct accounting analyses, and perform monthly account reconciliations in line with departmental standards. Scrutinize financial data, journal entries, and accounting reports to ensure precision, timely processing, and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulatory requirements.
- Lead or support the provision of additional accounting assistance for tasks such as routine and ad hoc financial analyses and reporting (including SEC reporting), the implementation of new accounting procedures, internal control and compliance initiatives, and special projects as needed.
- Compile auditor (both internal and external) required documentation and informational requests, and engage in business process walkthroughs.
- Oversee or assist with the management of financial reporting systems (Infor, Business Objects, PowerPlan), including testing and implementing system upgrades.
- Develop and maintain documentation for significant business processes, related accounting policies, and job responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 4 years of progressive general accounting experience required.
- Equivalent Experience: At least 2 years of public accounting experience.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong communication skills to interact effectively with all organizational levels. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with general ledger accounting systems and reporting tools. Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Specialized Skills: Experience in the utilities sector, particularly with Power Plan, FERC accounting, and/or RUS reporting is highly desirable.
- Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations: CPA certification or candidacy preferred, but not mandatory.
Work Schedule: This position may require unusual hours, particularly during month-end and quarter-end closings, with increased hours expected during year-end close and audit periods. Additional hours may also be necessary for system upgrades or conversions.
