We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our team at Oglethorpe Power Corporation.
Job SummaryThe successful candidate will be responsible for preparing journal entries, accounting analyses, and monthly account reconciliations in accordance with departmental standards. They will also review and analyze financial information, journal entries, and accounting reports to ensure accuracy, timely processing, and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review financial reports, including journal entries, accounting analyses, and monthly account reconciliations.
- Financial Analysis: Analyze financial information, identify trends, and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Internal Controls: Implement and maintain effective internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and regulatory guidelines.
- System Administration: Administer financial reporting systems, including testing and implementation of system upgrades.
- Documentation: Create and maintain documentation of assigned significant business processes and related accounting policies and job position responsibilities.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field.
- Experience: 4+ years of progressive general accounting experience required.
- Equivalent Experience: 2+ years of public accounting experience.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the corporation, proficient with Microsoft Office applications, experience with general ledger accounting systems and reporting applications, and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Specialized Skills: Utilities industry experience with Power Plan, FERC accounting, and/or RUS reporting would be highly preferred.
- Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations: CPA certificate or candidate preferred, but not required.
The position may require extra hours of work at month-end and quarter-end closes, with a heavier concentration of hours at the year-end close and audit. Additional hours may also be required for system conversions or upgrades.
