About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Investigative Journalism Specialist to join our North Carolina investigations team. As a key member of our journalism team, you will be responsible for conducting in-depth investigations and producing high-quality accountability reporting.

About You

  • You have a proven track record of producing investigative journalism that makes a difference in the lives of our readers.
  • You possess excellent reporting and storytelling skills, with the ability to juggle quick-turn reporting while working on deeper dives.
  • You have experience with data journalism and can effectively analyze and present complex information.
  • You are a strong communicator and able to build sources on and off the record.
  • You have a tested strategy for bulletproof fact-checking and a growth mindset that includes an embrace of new tools, such as generative AI and machine learning.

Our NC I-team is comprised of accomplished journalists who publish stories with both a local focus and a statewide sweep. Salary

The estimated salary for this role is $80,000-$110,000 per year, depending on experience.
